Yesterday, 3rd November 2021 government of India under leadership of Mr Narendra Modi decided to reduce excise duty on petrol and diesel by Rs 5 and Rs 10 respectively.

So what’s in it for private bus operators? Why is this a huge relief?

So as we go further , diesel as yesterday had crossed Rs 100 mark in many Major cities. Small and medium fleet operators felt the heat of continuous rise in diesel prices as ticket fares were same, which added directly to their expenses and reduced profit margin.

“The Government of India has taken a significant decision of reducing Excise Duty on Diesel Rs 10 respectively. Prices of diesel will thus come down accordingly, we bus operators are happy with this decision from the government ‘ – said an anonymous medium fleet owner hailing from Bangalore, Karnataka.

Amid pandemic many buses were surrendered, sold z seized by financiers as owners were unable to pay EMI or had no reserve to restart the services. COVID-19 protocols, less occupancy, rising fuel prices had demoralised even well established operators.
